May was a very busy month full of rewarding experiences for students, parents and staff!
- Our robotic steam “The Robotic Nerds” competed in the Rally in the Valley, an Annual Robotics Competition held at CSUN. Fourteen schools participated in the event. Our students won 1st place in Research and Development and 2nd place in the Space Challenge.
- Our principal, Mrs. Fajardo, attended the CCSA Advocacy Training in Sacramento to learn ways to better our school and charters at large and put them into action.
- Staff/Community Appreciation Day: Pacoima Charter celebrated the school staff and community partners that make what we do possible. We had our in house guitar class students provide the entertainment, participants had tacos and we even had a photobooth!
- Our STEAM Teachers took our students to CSUN to present their sustainability projects to students and staff of CSUN (as well as their parents).
- YPI (Youth Policy Institute) had its series of Computer Class for Parents.
- 2nd Grade had its Annual Spelling Bee!
- La Comadre Network celebrated the mothers of our students. Every mom was treated to tacos from Tacos El Gordo Food Truck. There was a photo booth for the families. Children had pizza. Everyone had cake and there were even raffles!
- Versa Style Dance Company came back to our school to get our kids moving and grooving!
- 5th grade said “Cheeeeese!” for their Culmination Pictures and their grade panorama.
- We celebrated the over 400 families in our school which completed 30+ parent volunteer hours. They were treated to a very special meal catered by our school chef.
- We hosted the Scholastic Book Fair. Students, parents and staff were able to participate in the buy one get one free book sale!
- Open House was held for all grades K-5th
- The School Social Work Team, in collaboration with El Centro de Amistad, hosted Pacoima Charter’s inaugural Community Resource Fair. Over 30 agencies came to provide resources to our families (see more by clicking here). Mrs. Fajardo and Ms. Rodriguez won their sumo match against the evil twins.
- The Guitar and Percussion Groups held their Spring Concert.
- Our Student Council Members got on a plane and flew to Sacramento to get an insider’s view of the state capital and how government works. Assemblyman Raul Bocanegra gave the VIP treatment to our students.
- North East Valley Best Start Hosted a movie night. All families in attendance were treated to Subway or Pizza. Before the screening of Inside Out, interns from the social work team presented briefly on stress management.
- Keep California Beautiful had its annual recycling competition. Out of many schools state wide, Pacoima Charter won 2nd in cardboard lunch trays recycled and 3rd in milk carton recycled. We love our planet and strive to do our part.
